洪凌的作品表达了他“散淡怀抱”的人生态度, 浑厚而质朴, 散发出内心的平静。洪凌喜爱黄宾虹的作品, 从中感受到了面对自然的客观超脱。
这种人生态度决定了洪凌的山水态度, 那就是顺其自然, 着眼于山水给人的整体感受。所以洪凌作品中的自然, 富于人文情愫, 他的画中有时间的流逝, 有历史的感觉, 在那些看似平淡的风景中, 他看见很多人视而不见的美。
现代中国画风景的油画家不算少, 但能在美术史上产生持续影响的大家和大作还是不多。一方面是新中国美术强化主题性的人物画创作, 风景被定为次级画种；再就是许多画家仍然运用西方的写生方式面对自然, 以西方人“立观”的框架去观看, 将自然作为一种物质化的客观对象来审视, 风景画只是以形式之美满足视觉愉悦。而中国古代的山水画家则是走遍山川读自然, 全身心面对自然丰富的变化, 体味自然微妙的表情, 从视觉空间的探寻进入到精神空间的体验。洪凌的作品显示出他对此深有体悟。
山水之道即人生之道。

Boundless Momentum--Hong Ling Solo Exhibition
“Preface：Landscape is Life”

The works of Hong Ling express his attitude towards life –seeking for an easy free life instead of fame and wealth. The works are profound and simple, emitting the peace from his heart. Hong Ling enjoys the works of Huang Binhong and feels the objective other-worldly attitude of the artist before the nature.
Such attitude towards life determines his view on the landscape--“Let it be” and focus on the whole feeling from landscape. So the nature in his works is the embodiment of human culture. In his works, we can feel the lapse of the time and the extension of the history. In those seemingly common landscapes, he found many beauties invisible for most of people.
Many oil painters focus on modern Chinese landscape, however rare of them and the works have continuous influence on fine arts. On the one hand, the fine arts education in new China stress portrait creation with a clear theme and landscape is deemed as the secondary grade; on the other hand, many painters still face nature with western sketch method, view the works in the framework of “three-dimensional observation” popular in the west. In this way they observe the nature as a materialized object and landscapes are just to satisfy the eyes with beauty of form, while ancient landscape painters visited famous scenic spots to read the nature, faced the changing nature with their all hearts and experienced subtly expression of the nature to get experience of mental space from visual space. Hong Ling’s works show his realization in this field.
Tao of landscape is the Tao of life.
