People looking around
Everyone is inevitably living in a specific society at a specific time. Their behaviors, emotions and value concept are all branded with the characteristics of their times and society. Chinese traditional culture and value concept with a long history of five thousand years were utterly interrupted and collapsed for years of social and political turbulence in the 20th century. Since the adopted Opening-Up policy twenty years ago, China’s economy has been boosted rapidly while on the other hand, the gap between the well-off material life of the Chinese people and the collapse of their spiritual world is getting even wider as a result of the impact of the western civilizations and global commercialization. Now Chinese people nearly enjoy the same fashionable life as others do in the rest of the world. But the intoxication and satisfaction of their well-off material life and endless consuming desires even deepen their confusions. They are always looking around restlessly. It is as if they had regained the whole world but on the other hand they seem to have lost themselves. “China Series” is not about a specific person, but a social image in China at the converge of the 20th and 21st century, when people are just looking around restlessly with apparent beautiful and trendy outside but empty and lost inside.
