“Sans Duo” is the second painting exhibition held by the two artists in Beijing since 2006. Both artists look at life from different perspectives, emotions and painting styles, yet complement each other with their shared passion in art. Their paintings adopt rhythmic and vivid brush strokes to establish their own perceptions of optical pulses of life. Similarly, their preference of the use of colors creates harmony and contrast bring the audience close to a further sensual experience and the seeking of self consciousness.
Susan Yeung is an artist born in Hong Kong and a resident of Toronto, Canada. She began to study painting at an early age, her painting skill continued to sustain and develop through studies of Chinese art. She studied arts & film in New York and later on obtained an EMBA at Hong Kong City University.
Yeung’s work is of a contemporary character and highly influenced by impressionists painting. Her work transforms the painting to a spiritual art through vibrant colors, which is a very important element in visual
experience. This transformation allows one to sense the tranquility of an object and manifest his emotion toward it, also fulfills the self-exploring process that the artist wants the audience to go through.
Striving to express emotional reaction by the use of pigment and color, Susan Yeung takes the impressionism to a more contemporary and abstract level. Oil pigment has been her favorite media which is well witnessed in her latest series of colorful impressionistic oil paintings of abstract landscapes. The value of art that is broadly expressed in her painting always supports and enriches the various themes in her works. From borderless landscape to her emotional manifestation, her unique style is richly presented. Also the everlasting quality and life in her works always inspire the mystery and multi-cultural exchange.
Ada Chan grew up in Hong Kong. She went to study art in Toronto, Canada at the age of 17. Later She received her BFA degree in Visual Arts from York University of Toronto. She works in various fields of art as a graphic designer, a free-lance artist and a painter. Her original acrylic & oil paintings are collected by corporate and private studios throughout the Hong Kong & Canada.
As a graphic designer, Ada devoted herself to creative painting full time and began a journey of experimentation and exploration. She worked with various medium including acrylics and oil paints. Several years ago, overcoming a depressive hardship of her life, she began to experiment her unique abstract brush strokes and completed series of abstract paintings after she survived a depressing and tough time. She fell in love with in acrylics & oils because she found acrylics pigment provides inspiration for her when used as colors and background textures. Her style of thick brushes and abstraction continue to thrive these days.
Chan’s excellence in her various series of works partly lies in her consistent artistic level developed from her years of working in various fields. She has an acute instinctive in using intense dark color and for contrasting composition and has showed great skill and selection in using them. Her choice of dark coloration, handling and employing of it come from inspiration from her rich emotional life experience. Chan is known for her style of impasto effects, which is done truly by a confident and vivid-moving hand.
