My profile
I was born in the city where my grandma settled
grandma said mysterious things happened concurrently
it had been raining for tens of days
winter and summer alternated continually
mom said camellia flowers blossomed in her dream
monsters jumped in and out with scream
butterflies flew around her mosquito net
they worried that I wouldn't be alive after being born
therefore it's another miracle I'm sitting here and thinking
This is a brief surrealism poem. It’s exaggerated but depicts the situation of my birth. Surrealism artwork is similar to the whirlpools on the surface of water; they actually reveal the submerged reefs and caves under the water.
I was born in AnSun city of GuiZhou province. It rains often. My mom contracted malaria when she was giving birth to me. She had a fevered of 41 degrees Celsius. She had had to hold a pot of tea and smell the fragrance to reduce the sufferings before the disease was diagnosed. AnSun isn’t the hometown of my grandparents. They settled down there during the Second World War. The parents of my father live in GuiYang. My parents are all doctors; they were assigned to work in a village after graduating from GuiYang medical college. Mom felt the conditions of town were too bad when she gave birth to my older sister, so she went to grandma’s home to give birth to me. She brought me back to the village after the malaria was cured. My whole family moved to a little town when I was five. Afterwards, father was admitted to the capital medical college as a research student and stayed in BeiJing after he graduated. Then my family moved to BeiJing when I was twelve.
Life was hard sometimes in GuiZhou when I was a child. But after leaving there so many years ago, the happy memories emerged gradually. The beautiful scenery, evergreen woods, lovely river and fields, created an ideal world for children. At that time, my sister, my friends and I always climbed hills, climbed trees in the woods, fought with the fruits of cypress, picked mushrooms, swam in the river, caught crabs and shrimp, caught dragonflies in the fields and caught butterflies and cockchafers in the flowerbed … I think the experiences of having been close to and observing nature has given me deep influence and helped in the creation of my art. Especially manifest are the sensitive and obsession for beauty and nature.
After I came to BeiJing, I started to learn drawing in a children’s club when I was thirteen; I got into the Art and Craft school when I was sixteen; and I attended an advanced study at Print Department of China Central Academy of Fine Art for more than one year. These experiences helped me build a quite stable base of art. And from many excellent art seniors, I learned the prime quality of an artist should be: Love of art.
In recent years, I’ve become an artist through my own efforts and the support of my family and friends. I improve myself continually by reading, studying, and creating. As a female of the new era, I feel very lucky to have been born in this time, because I can do what I want to do; can create freely and independently and can go on improving and perfecting my art ability.
This is my second solo exhibition. I’m still enriching my creations, going on probing myself and the world through surrealism. For the future, I plan to go on exploring the mysterious land of art by my own way.
