结束了在德国科隆的艺术，德国文学和哲学的学业后（1979-83），奥特斯巴赫曾在里斯本和洛杉矶担任客座教授，2009年秋，莱比锡Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst任命他为绘画及版画专业教授，接替Neo Rauch的职位。

奥特斯巴赫的写实主义绘画具有观念性的一面，但他并不认为自己是观念性的艺术家。他的作品着重阐述艺术的重要性，绘画的意义，以及艺术家在社会背景中的地位等问题。除了众多公共收藏，他在汉堡美术馆，慕尼黑的Villa Stuck美术馆，或巴登巴登的Frieder Burda美术馆等地举办过个人展览。2007年，Kunsthalle Tübingen为他举办了一个艺术回顾展。

这是奥特斯巴赫在北京的首次个人展览。在艺术家与画廊的合作下，向公众展示一些至今为止仅在美术馆出现过的早期作品。

After his studies in art, German literature and philosophyin Cologne, Germany (1979-83) Ottersbach taught as visiting professor in Lisbon and Los Angeles before he was named professor for painting and printmaking at Leipzig's Hochschule fuer Grafik und Buchkunst in fall 2009, succeeding Neo Rauch in that position.

Ottersbach's figurative painting has a conceptual approach, but he does not see himself as a conceptual artist. His work focuses on questions such as the importance of art, the significance of painting, as well as the role of the artist in the context of society. Besides numerous public collections his work has been featured at solo exhibitions such as Hamburger Kunsthalle, Villa Stuck, Munich or Museum Frieder Burda in Baden-Baden. In 2007, Kunsthalle Tuebingen held a retrospective.

Ottersbach is now presenting his first solo show in Beijing, developed collaboratively between artist and gallerist, integrating several works that have only been on view in museums before.
