赵绪成的意义（代序）

每个人都有每个人的意义。我认为：著名书画家赵绪成的意义在于他的书画艺术，在于他的艺术创新。

赵绪成有极其深厚的传统艺术功底，他早期的“飞天”和人物画，就已达到很高的艺术水准。然而，赵绪成以其极强的创新意识和宽广的视野汲取西画以及现代艺术元素，其中包括借鉴声、光、电等新兴艺术表现形式运用到他的艺术创作之中，独创了“新飞天”和“现代都市水墨”，从而开辟了中国画的崭新境界，构筑了当代中国画的艺术高峰。

“书画同源”这充分体现在赵绪成的艺术生涯之中。这不能简单地理解为赵先生既画画又写字，而是他真正把书画艺术相融通，把中国画的构图造型手法运用于书法，但又不是那种简单地把汉字还原于图画的庸俗做法，而是对汉字进行“水墨”造型，从而产生独特的艺术效果，进而将书法变成真正意义上的“现代书法”和“现代艺术”。

虽然赵绪成先生已近古稀之年，但他的艺术生命力旺盛。生有崖而艺无涯。赵绪成先生的艺术生涯和创新活力永无止境，必将创造新的辉煌，这正是赵绪成的意义。这意义，对于艺术、对于人生、对于他、对于他人，都是那么的重要！

Meaning of Zhao Xucheng
In Lieu of a Preface

Everyone has his or her own meaning. In my opinion, that of famous artist Zhao Xucheng lies in his artistic innovation.

Zhao Xucheng is an accomplished artist, mastering the essence and spiritual dimension of Chinese culture. His early Flying Apsaras and figure paintings have already reached a high level. With a strong sense of innovation and a broad mind, together with the use of light, sound and electricity and other new forms of artistic expression more familiar in modern western art, he creates a series of new Flying Apsaras and modern cityscape paintings, opening up a new realm of Chinese painting, and lifting contemporary Chinese painting back to peak.

Chinese calligraphy and painting share a common source as art forms. This is fully reflected in Zhao Xucheng’s art career, more than that of a man who paints and writes, in his perfect synthesis of these two art forms. With the facility to apply the composition techniques of Chinese painting to calligraphy, he departs from the formulaic restoring of character into picture, and opts for a styling Chinese character with “ink”, creating a unique artistic effect, and thus becoming the true sense of “contemporary calligraphy” and “contemporary art”.

Although Mr. Zhao Xucheng is nearly 70 years old, his passion for creation is strong. Life is limited, but art is unlimited. Mr. Zhao Xucheng’s endless pursuit of art and creativity is destined to create a new glory. This is Zhao Xucheng’s meaning, which holds high importance to art, life, himself and his peers.
