从盲人认识世界的方式那里获得启发，成勇不断拓展以“障碍”为主题的艺术探索。在最近的作品中，成勇巧妙地揭示了明与暗之间的辩证关系。一般认为，光明源于去蔽，黑暗源于遮蔽。但是，成勇用他的艺术颠倒了这个常识。没有障碍，人类就无法认知，世界将一团漆黑。然而，任何认识，在某种意义上又都是在制造障碍。成勇借助盲文这个契机，以绘画、雕塑、装置、影像和行为等一系列的艺术手段，对一个深刻的哲学道理做出了成功的视觉表达。观看成勇的艺术，不仅可以获得视觉享受，而且可以获得思想启迪和人生感悟。

Cheng Yong has special experience during his teaching at Nanjing Technical College of Special Education. He realizes that the cognitive style of the blind is very different from the normal. The blind understand the world through obstacle, while the normal, disclosure. However, according to Cheng Yong’s, understanding, obstacle is not only important for the blind but also for the normal, since, basically speaking, all cognition originates from obstacles. Without the obstacles, the transparency is same with opacity. And so any knowledge is obstacle in the sense of both concealment and disclosure. Cheng Yong illuminates this profound and complicated philosophy with his paintings, sculptures, installations, videos and performances, which all have minimalist style. From Cheng Yong’s art, we can get not only visual enjoyment, but also enlightenment and inspiration.
