The Rhythm of Pneuma

From the gentle ancient to nowadays, the most noteworthy character of lacquer is that lacquer art has also a pure artistic content from a simple practical art form. In China, for centuries, as a pure art, lacquer works are almost entirely flat pattern. But some others believe that the profound Chinese lacquer ware has always been displayed and transmitted in the broad three-dimensional and flat field. The dignified color and marvelous glow become more splendid because of the turning point between body and surface. Therefore, they appreciate that modern pure creation of lacquer ware could not be limited to the plane, but should be in 3D modeling. Wang Tianliang is such a lacquer artist who finds a new path.

The artworks of Wang Tianliang are indescribable but once the viewer appreciate on them they can feel a surge of circling pneuma blowing the breath of oriental culture and the beauty of  rhythm between color and body. It can't belong to a pushover. It not only shows the author has the artist's innate endowments which is so-called natural talent but also highlights the author's acquired knowledge cultivation and elegant aesthetic tendencies. Because of the rigorous technical subtlety, it can give a strong support to the spectacular artistic expression of these artworks. Facing up with lacquer artworks of  Wang Tianliang, I stood quietly, viewed the works with an understanding nod as if drinking strong wine and wrote the poem entitled "view a large series lacquer art of Wang Tianliang" as below:

Surge of passion, restrained and subtle;
Stars in summer, the ancient wood in jungle;
Arctic rays, beautiful Hetian jade;
Old house has more traces of moss, purple tripod has verdigris;
The land fire is running, creatures will be bred;
Both traditional and modern seem new creation;
The value of innovation started from not repeating any others;
Painting reflects the painter, Mr. Wang is really not hackneyed.
