“Fusion of Visions” is referred from the state of two merged horizons. In this exhibition, I used the term for the two artists of Kuo, Chia-Hui and Long, Wei-Quan, as a metaphor for their difference in visions, reflection in life and art, as well as the exhibition itself being a fusion of audience and different arts.
From creation aspect, Chia-Hui employs the techniques of Impressionism in depicting natural scenes as she travels. Besides, she likes to write poetry and prose along her travel. Here writings and paintings complement each other nicely. It is her take away from the sentimental life. On the other hand, Xiaolong’s oil paintings were mostly developed around the theme of reflection from urban lives. His works can be broadly divided into two area of interests. One includes "New Youth series”, "Pink series", and "Capsule series", which depicts images of urban characters, reflection of pop culture, and influence of consumer culture. The other covers "Under Pressure, unsolved", "Sex and the city" and so forth, which reflects the feelings of routine city lives. Generally speaking, his works focus more on spiritual propositions of inner hearts.
For this exhibition, through different ages and different experience, Chia-Hui and Xiaolong developed their style of arts from their own perspectives and experiences. However in the essence of art, Chia-Hui's artistic vision is driven from her inner heart toward the nature. Xiaolong starts from urban lives and go after the truth of inner heart. Despite of the different approach, they both are driven by their passion for life and arts. And because of their difference, it forms interesting contrast and reflection. The” Fusion of Visions”, interprets their views and fusion between life and art. I think this is exactly the purpose and fit for this exhibition.
Kuo Chia-Hui (Vicky), born in Taipei, was deeply inspired by impressionist art while living in the United States during the 1990s. Inspired by the landscape oil paintings of impressionist artists, she gradually developed theme of natural scenery onto her oil paintings. Since her arrival to Guangzhou in 1999, she has dedicated much time and effort into studying and painting oil paintings. She was deeply moved and influenced whilst her visits to Lieyu, and has discovered that her journey in art begins with the unique cultural flavors of Lieyu.
